About the Wintergreen

Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) is a cold hardy, evergreen groundcover native to Ohio! This spritely plant blooms in shady woodlands during the summer, producing dainty, white bell-shaped flowers. Later in the growing season, this plant produces festive, bright red berries just in time for winter. Hardy in zones 3-9, Wintergreen is a fantastic plant to brighten up both indoor and outdoor winter containers. Leaves and berries are aromatic and edible, providing flavor for teas. Care Notes

When indoors, grow in bright, indirect light keeping the soil evenly moist with consistent re-watering and high humidity. They prefer cooler temperatures around 55-65 degrees F. Keep out of hot or cold drafts. Fertilize with Osmocote April through October. In spring, Wintergreen can be planted outdoors in a part-shade area with well-draining soil.
